Timbaland Confesses To Being “In Love” With Aaliyah When She Was 16-Years-Old

In the midst of the ‘Surviving R. Kelly’ docuseries, the late Aaliyah’s name has been circling the internet. Many people have become very uncomfortable with the relationship R. Kelly had with Aaliyah at such a young age.
A video has now resurfaced of media mogul Timbaland saying that he was in love with Aaliyah when she was 16-years-old.
In a 2011 interview on ‘E! True Hollywood Story,’ Timbaland confessed he was intimately attracted to Aaliyah while they were working together.
According to Complex, Timbaland and Aaliyah were first introduced to one another during the time Aaliyah was working on her second album. Aaliyah was reportedly 16, while Timbaland was 23.
“When I first met Aaliyah—it’s time for the world to hear this, I’m gonna give a little secret—I was in love with her,” Timbaland said in the interview. “I said, ‘She [is] just a baby, I’m old. I’m just gonna be her brother. Oh man, I was fightin’, I was fightin’ a lot—a big war. But I loved Aaliyah.”
Timbaland worked with Aaliyah throughout the duration of her music career. He later confessed to marrying his wife, Monique Idlett because her and Aaliyah shared similar features.
“When I first met my wife, I knew I was going to marry her because she looked like Aaliyah,” he said.
Timbaland has worked in the music industry as a producer for many years. He has been a part of record-breaking albums and songs since his early twenties. But that has not stopped him from getting heat from being “in love” with an underage girl.
Some celebrities who knew Aaliyah at the time have come forward to say their feelings on Aaliyah and her interactions with men who were older than her, such as R. Kelly.
In a recent interview with Damon Dash and the “The Hip Hop Motivator,” Damon said ‘Surviving R. Kelly’ made him uncomfortable.
You can see the video here.
“I watched some of it yesterday, and as a human I was tight. There was a girl and when she was trying to talk about it, she couldn’t,” Damon said.
Damon said he stopped being supportive of R. Kelly a long time ago when Aaliyah first told him that her ex-husband was a “bad man.”
“And I remember Aaliyah trying to talk about it and she couldn’t. She would just leave it at that ‘dude was a bad man.’ I’ve been tight about this sh*t for years,” he said.
Damon said that he didn’t want to get too involved in the situation with Aaliyah and R. Kelly because he would have wanted to do something to defend her.
“I didn’t really want to know what he did, to the extent that I would, you know, deal with it because that’s what a man does. But it was so much hurt for her to revisit it. I wouldn’t want to revisit it without a professional. Whatever got done was terrible,” Damon said.
Damon dated Aaliyah from 2000 until 2001 when she died tragically.
Damon even refused to work with R. Kelly during his collaboration with Jay-Z on “The Best Of Both Worlds” album.
“If you remember The Best of Both Worlds, you don’t see my name on that… I never wanted no part of that,” Damon said.
Damon said that this album was the ultimate downfall of Rock-a-Fella because he believes Jay-Z was aware of R. Kelly’s history with underage girls but he still wanted to work with him.
“I knew, morally, we weren’t the same,” Dash said, referring to his partner Jay-Z. “So, to me, Roc-a-Fella was defunct. It was over. I couldn’t [be apart of] it. It was something that, to me—I don’t wanna say ‘unforgivable,’ but I couldn’t understand it.”
Damon said he declined to be credited on the album and he donated his proceeds from it to a breast cancer awareness organization Aaliyah often supported.
