Angie Thomas, the author of The Hate You Give is helping her book get converted to film, but she’s catching tons of heat now that one of the film’s actors has been exposed as a racist.
In February of 2017, Harper-Collins Publishers released The Hate You Give, a riveting book about race written by Angie Thomas (pictured left).
Thomas’ book became a New York Times bestselling novel and won a number of awards. The book is based on the story of a 16-year-old black girl who had a best friend of hers get gunned down by police for no good reason. After selling a six-figure amount of copies, talks began about converting Thomas’ book into a movie.
Roughly just a year after its literary release, The Hate You Give is already about to fulfill the author’s dream of putting a film into production, which is based on her critically acclaimed book. Thomas is also a key creator of this film and heavily involved in the preliminary decision-making process when it comes to the HR duties of personnel.
