Dwayne Johnson Under Fire For Being Cast As A Dark-Skinned Black Man In New Netflix Film
This week, Dwayne “The Rock” Johnson teased fans with a trailer for Netflix’s new action-adventure film John Henry & The Statesmen.
The tale of John Henry is the story of a black steel-driver and former slave. Johnson is producing the film and being directed by Jumanji director, Jake Kasdan.
In a statement, Johnson said: “These diverse characters speak to a legacy of storytelling that is more relevant than ever and span across a worldwide audience regardless of age, gender, race or geography.”
Johnson is of mixed race. His mother is Samoan while his father is Black. During the course of his career, Johnson usually plays racially ambiguous. But this character has no gray areas, and according to some fans his darkness is “not up for debate.”
Check the source songs and stories. John Henry has always been imagined as a dark-skinned man. That’s not up for debate. However, it is hilarious to see the same people who constantly tell dark-skinned women to just “get over it” throwing a hissy fit. pic.twitter.com/JAhOi9cnRj
