Usher files for divorce from his wife, Grace Miguel.
The couple decided to split after ten years of being together and three years of marriage.
Usher filed for the divorce in Georgia last week; The Blast reported the news when court documents were submitted. The decision comes nine months after the two announced their separation in March 2018.
The forty-year-old singer and Miguel announced the news by a releasing a joint statement to the public.
“After much thought and consideration, we have mutually decided to separate as a couple,” they said in a statement released in March. “We remain deeply connected, loving friends who will continue supporting each other through the next phases of our lives,” they confirm in the statement. “The enormous amount of love and respect that we have for each other will only increase as we move forward.”
Usher reportedly filed for the divorce using the same attorney he used to divorce his first wife, Tameka Foster.
Usher and Miguel met while working in the music industry; she served as Usher’s manager for many years.
Shortly before the couple’s engagement, Usher spoke highly of Miguel in an interview with Billboard.
“I have an incredible partner and manager,” the singer said. “She has helped me through some of the hardest times in my life and my career.”
The couple were engaged in 2015 and later eloped that same year. They honeymooned in Cuba.
Reportedly they’ve already reached a confidential settlement agreement and awaiting the judge’s approval.
The news comes a shortly after rumors of Usher having an STD spread throughout social media.
In the summer of 2017, a Jane Doe came forward accusing Usher of giving her Herpes after they had sexual intercourse.
The woman eventually sued him for $10 million but was later raised to $20 million in 2018.
She accused the singer of giving her the disease without notifying her of his health condition.
She announced that she and Usher first had protected sex in her Atlanta home in April of 2017.
According to TMZ, the woman stated that they then had sex 12 days later in New Orleans unprotected.
The woman began to experience symptoms and was later diagnosed with herpes simplex 2 virus (HSV-2).
However, Usher believes it is not his fault the woman received the STD. Through his attorney Steve Sadow, Usher claims he owed Laura Helm no “duty of care” because she knew the risks of unprotected sex. He also claims Hem “could have been asymptomatic before testing positive and could have contracted the virus from someone else. He is asking the court to dismiss the case and order Helm to pay his attorney’s fees.”
Usher’s attorney believes the case was only opportunistic. “It’s our sincere hope that this dismissal will bring an end to the opportunistic litigation against Usher in Georgia,” Sadow said.
This case was not the first time the singer had been accused of spreading the incurable disease. In 2012, it was reported Usher paid $1.1 to settle a lawsuit from a woman who claimed to have obtained the STD from him.
While Miguel did not comment on the lawsuits, Usher’s former wife did.
Foster took to Instagram to tell fans that she was okay and did not want people questioning her about the news.
“Do not come on my page discussing rumors or adult people that have NOTHING to do with me. I have been divorced 8 years… Some issues are not my business… I’m good, and my health (everywhere) is great.”
Usher is still being sued by three other women who had unprotected sex with Usher. They are all being represented by Lisa Bloom, who says only one of the three women carries the STD.
One of the accusers, Quantasia Sharpton, told reporters although she did catch herpes, she is still “upset” about hearing the news concerning Usher’s health. She said she “would have never consented” if she would have known.
