A black female doctor was told to ‘sit down’ and then passed over for an older white male by Delta air crew when she tried to offer medical help to a fellow passenger mid-flight.
Tamika Cross (below), who is completing her residency at McGovern Medical School at University of Texas-Houston, was flying to Houston from Detroit via Minneapolis when the man fell unconscious.
She offered to help him immediately but was dismissed by a member of staff who she says called her ‘sweetie’ and told her sit down because they did not believe she was a doctor.
Later, after listing her experience and being asked to show her credentials, she was dismissed again by the woman when an older, white man claimed he too could help.
