A Mother Removes Her Son From A Preschool After He Wears A Dress — Not Once, But Twice

A mother withdrew her son from a preschool after her girlfriend sees him walking around in a dress.
Twenty-four-year-old Kayla Bedford’s girlfriend dropped her son off at Bethany Early Childhood Center, which is a Christian private school in Kansas on Friday.
Bedford told Yahoo Lifestyle that after her girlfriend said goodbye to her two-year-old, she later looked back inside the establishment. She then saw the boy put on a dress and begin to walk around the classroom with it on.
She immediately returned, to address the issue. “She went back into the classroom and took off the dress saying, ‘We don’t do this’ in front of the teacher,” Bedford said. “I am a lesbian, but I don’t push my son in any direction. Whatever he decides to do or wear in the future is his decision.”
Bedford went to the school later the same day to speak to the teacher about the dress issue. She said that while walking into the class, she sees her son putting on the dress again.
Bedford said the teacher was standing over the little boy allowing him to put on the dress, despite her knowing she wasn’t okay with it.
“I pulled his teacher aside and explained that I don’t condone my son wearing a dress at school,” Bedford said. “She just laughed and said, ‘He’s only two!'”
Disappointed with the teacher’s response, Bedford called her dad, Malcolm to meet her at the school.
Once the father arrived, he addressed the issue while recording the conversation on his cell phone.
“My daughter called and said she had an issue with my grandson being in a dress,” he said.
The teacher responded by saying she didn’t understand what the problem is. She even repeated, “he’s two.”
She immediately told the grandfather that he would have to speak with the school director after he explained that they do not condone the “transgender thing.”
According to Yahoo Lifestyle, Bedford and her father’s concerns were dismissed. She also stated that there was no explanation given as to why her son wore a dress on two separate occasions. Therefore, she decided to remove her son from the school. She also feared that by her son being the only Black child in the class, he would be discriminated against for their beliefs.
While at the school the mother noticed the classroom lacked dress up clothes for boys. Playing dress-up is normal for preschoolers, but wearing clothes that belong to the opposite sex is not.
A representative from the school sent a statement to Yahoo Lifestyle addressing the situation: “At Bethany Early Childhood Center we put our children first and foremost. We encourage our children to play in a Christ-centered atmosphere that we hope will allow them to gain confidence and learn to interact with others in a positive way. Our primary responsibility is to our children and part of that is protecting their privacy, because of this we are unable to comment on specific incidents involving a child in our care.”
The statement still does not give an explanation as to why the mother’s concerns were not handled in the appropriate manner.
Many people on social media supported the mother’s decision to pull her son from the school.
“I would have removed my son from that same day too! They were testing the parents for sure,” one commenter wrote.
Another stated, “[The teacher] is teaching the kids that this is okay. [The boy’s] two and he doesn’t understand. He’s going to think wearing a dress is normal, and it’s not. The teacher should have never let the boy put on a dress, especially after the mother said she had an issue with it.”
