Meghan Markle‘s mother, Doria Ragland, has reportedly quit her job at a mental health clinic ahead of the royal wedding.
According to Us Weekly, the 61-year-old social worker left her role at the Los Angeles clinic she had been working at to pursue her goal of starting her own private practice following her 36-year-old daughter’s nuptials on Saturday, May 19.
‘Doria is no longer working at the mental health clinic in the Los Angeles area. It was Doria’s decision to leave,’ a source told the outlet. ‘She has talked about starting her own private practice, focusing on working with elderly patients.’
Meghan opened up about her mother and her work with the elderly in an essay published by Glamour last August.
‘My mom’s a yoga instructor, but she does social work, as well, and she works specifically with the geriatric community,’ she wrote.
‘For me to watch this level of life-long sensitivity to nurturing and caregiving, but at the same time my mom has always been a free spirit. She’s got dread locks and a nose ring. She just ran the LA Marathon.
We can just have so much fun together, and yet, I’ll still find so much solace in her support,’ she added. ‘That duality coexists the same way it would in a best friend.’
The reports about Doria’s decision to quit her job come just one week after it was revealed that she had met with TV legend Oprah Winfrey at her $88 million Los Angeles home in order to discuss ideas for a tell-all interview.
According to the Mirror Online, the duo spent six hours together going over potential topics that could be covered during a sit-down, with a source saying that they focused particularly on race and the role that it has played in Harry and Meghan’s relationship.
‘Oprah and Doria spent a long time chatting and they got on really well,’ the source said.
‘The most important and significant issue they spoke about was race and how badly some people had reacted to Meghan and Harry.

‘What happened to Meghan and Harry was disgusting and they and all of their families were horrified. It’s an issue close to both Doria and Oprah, who have both suffered racism.’
However the interview reportedly needs to be approved by Meghan, Harry and Buckingham Palace before it is recorded.
Growing up, Meghan lived with her mother in a two-bedroom, two-bathroom apartment in the Mid-Wilshire area of Los Angeles.
The Suits star’s mother, Doria, and her father, Thomas Markle, divorced when she was six years old.
The news that Doria has moved on from her job comes less than an hour after 36-year-old Meghan’s father, Thomas, claimed that he will no longer be attending his daughter’s wedding to Prince Harry because he doesn’t want to embarrass her or the Royal Family.
The 73-year-old lighting director, who was set to to walk his daughter aisle at Windsor Castle on Saturday, secretly collaborated with a British paparazzi photographer to stage a series of pictures of himself preparing for the royal wedding.
While sharing his regret over staging the images in an attempt to recast his public image, the dad admitted to TMZ that the pictures look ‘stupid and hammy.’
TMZ also reported that Thomas had suffered a heart attack six days ago. Although he checked himself out of the hospital so he could attend the wedding, he has decided to skip the royal event because of the photo scandal.
While responding to the report, a Kensington Palace spokesman neither confirmed nor denied that Thomas was no longer attending the wedding.
‘This is a deeply personal moment for Ms Markle in the days before her wedding,’ the memo reads. ‘She and Prince Harry ask again for understanding and respect to be extended to Mr Markle in this difficult situation.’
Although Doria is thought to be the only close relative attending the royal wedding, members of Meghan’s extended family are in town for Saturday’s celebration.
The former actress’ nephews Tyler and Thomas Dooley and their mother, Meghan’s sister-in-law Tracy Dooley, seem determined to take part in the big day.
Despite previously revealing they hadn’t received an invite to the royal wedding, the trio were seen making their way to the arrivals gate at the London airport on Monday with 13 suitcases.
The family have been enlisted as ‘special correspondents’ for Good Morning Britain and are expected to report from Windsor, though are thought not to be attending the ceremony.
