Mariah Carey is reportedly being sued by one of her closest friends and confidantes.
The singer’s former manager Stella Bulochnikov has allegedly filed paperwork for a lawsuit against Mariah, 48, over breach of contract.
According to TMZ, Stella is accusing the star of a violation of the US Civil Rights Act, a Violation of the Fair Employment and Housing Act.
The website claims a ‘huge amount of money’ is being sought for missed payments as well as the aforementioned breaches.
It is expected that more details will follow shortly. MailOnline has contacted representatives for Mariah Carey for comment.
Mariah hired Stella, a former stand-up comedian, in 2013 as part of a huge team shake-up.
They were considered ‘inseparable’ for around four years but Mariah and Bulochnikov reportedly parted ways around a year ago.
In March 2016, a source close to Mariah came forward to say that Stella did not ‘act like a manager’ to the musician.
The insider told Page Six: ‘Stella is the furthest thing from a manager. She’s a TV producer.
‘She’s practically moved in with Mariah and now she has so much stuff on her that she can get her to do anything. She’s pulling the strings, and Mariah does whatever she says.’
Stella executive produced and masterminded Mariah’s reality TV show Mariah’s World.
During their time together, Stella is also believed to have helped Mariah through her split with Australian fiance James Packer.
But when the singer signed to Jay-Z’s Roc Nation in November 2017, she found not only a record label but management, talent agency, touring and concert production company as well as music, film and TV production.
This is when she is understood to have dropped Stella from her immediate team.
An unnamed source told Page Six that month: ‘She is getting legitimate people, assistants, a lawyer, and Stella is not happy about it.’
The Russian power manager released a statement about her split with the Butterfly songstress in November 2017.
It read: ‘After working together for almost three years, Mariah Carey and Stella Bulochnikov have determined that it is in their mutual best interest to part ways on day-to-day management.’
Around that time, the pop diva’s career had suffered a series of bad breaks and sloppy live acts, starting with what could only be called a meltdown during her Dick Clark’s 2017 New Year’s Rockin’ Eve performance.
Mariah’s publicist previously denied that Stella’s dismissal had anything to do with creative director and boyfriend Brian Tanaka.
Insider claims that he had been ‘orchestrating Stella’s exit for a long time’ were considered ‘without merit’ by Mariah’s people.
Only last week, Mariah was praised for coming forward about the secret plight of her bipolar II disorder.
In a brave interview with PEOPLE, Mariah admitted that she ‘lived in denial’ and ‘constant fear of being exposed’ after a 2001 diagnosis, when she was hospitalised for a physical and mental breakdown.
She said: ‘I didn’t want to believe it… Until recently I lived in denial and isolation and in constant fear someone would expose me. It was too heavy a burden to carry and I simply couldn’t do that anymore. I sought and received treatment.’
Bipolar II is said to be difficult to diagnose. The condition means she endures bouts of depression as well as hypomania, which can cause irritability, sleeplessness and hyperactivity).
The mother of six-year-old twins Moroccan and Monroe, from her marriage to Nick Cannon, explained that she was feeling positive about the future.
