Mandalay Bay Casino Issues Statement Following Las Vegas Attack

The Mandalay Bay Resort and Casino in Las Vegas has issued a statement following an attack by an apparent lone gunman on an outdoor concert that left more than 50 dead and 200 injured.

Along with a photo card with text summing up what happened, the casino tweeted, “Our thoughts & prayers are with the victims of last night’s tragic events. We’re grateful for the immediate actions of our first responders.”

The suspected gunman, who was shooting from a hotel window into the crowd watching the final night of the Route 91 Harvest Music Festival, was reportedly killed when police stormed his room.

The “nonstop gunfire,” according to one witness, sent bystanders outside the resort on the Vegas strip ducking for cover and fleeing for their lives. Tourists hid in their hotel rooms and flights headed into the McCarran International Airport were held elsewhere.

The shooting erupted during Jason Aldean’s set during the festival, a three-day event which featured major stars including Eric Church, Sam Hunt, Maren Morris, and Brothers Osborne, Lee Brice, Kane Brown, Michael Ray, and Lauren Alaina. Aldean was closing out the festival on Sunday night, and continued to play until it was apparent what was actually happening, and then he reportedly dropped his guitar and took cover.
