It’s That Serious! Parents are Sending Their Kids To Rehab To Get Over Their Fortnite Addiction

It seems the popular video game has become since a problem in some homes that parents have resorted to sending their children to counseling to get over the addiction. According to an article from Bloomberg, there has been a huge increase in parents taking their kids to rehab to get over their Fortnite addiction.

“This game is like heroin,” British behavioral specialist, Lorraine Marer told Bloomberg. “Once you are hooked, it’s hard to get unhooked.”

The World Health Organization lists a gaming disorder as a disease “characterized by impaired control over gaming, increasing priority given to gaming over other activities to the extent that gaming takes precedence over other interests and daily activities, and continuation or escalation of gaming despite the occurrence of negative consequences.” Other signs of gaming disorder include “impairment in personal, family, social, educational, occupational or other important areas of functioning and would normally have been evident for at least 12 months.”
