NBC News reports that they have confirmed with the Massachusetts Department of Corrections that early this morning 27-year-old Aaron Hernandez was found dead in his cell.
Prison officials said that Hernandez was found hanged in his cell, and was pronounced dead at 4:07am Wednesday morning.
Hernandez committed suicide in his prison cell, Police found thim hanging in his cell at Souza-Baranowski Correctional Center in Shirley, Massachusetts. Authorities reported that ‘Mr. Hernandez was in a single cell in a general population unit.’ In a statement from the DOC they said, ‘Mr. Hernandez hanged himself utilizing a bed-sheet that he attached to his cell window.’ ‘Mr. Hernandez also attempted to block his door from the inside by jamming the door with various items.’
The Former New England Patriots NFL star Aaron Hernandez, who is already serving a life sentence for a 2013 murder, was acquitted in a Boston double murder on April 14th that prosecutors said was fueled by his anger over a spilled drink at a nightclub.
Jurors deliberated first-degree murder charges against Hernandez for more than 40 hours over six days.

The former New England Patriots tight end was accused of shooting two men in 2012 after one of them accidentally spilled a drink on Hernandez at a Boston nightclub.
Hernandez’s lawyers said a former Hernandez friend shot the men, Daniel de Abreu and Safiro Furtado, over a botched drug deal.
