Bride Calls Off Her Wedding And Invites Homeless To $30,000 Reception Party

When her wedding plans were cancelled, she threw a party for the homeless.

The Indianapolis Star reports that Sarah Cummins and Logan Araujo were supposed to get married this weekend, an event they’d been planning for two years.

Last week, Cummins called it off, but did not share the reasons she did so.

In addition to nursing their broken hearts, Cummins and Araujo were stuck with a nonrefundable contract at the Ritz Charles in Carmel for a sit-down dinner for 170 guests Saturday night.

Cummins, 25, said, “It was really devastating. I called everyone, canceled, apologized, cried, called vendors, cried some more and then I started feeling really sick about just throwing away all the food I ordered for the reception.”

Since she knew they couldn’t get their money back, Cummins rearranged the reception area and contacted local homeless shelters, inviting residents to her party.

Cummins arranged for buses to pick up shelter residents and families and bring them to the hotel.
