Beyoncé Knowles-Carter is set to perform at the Global Citizen Festival: Mandela 100 in Johannesburg South Africa alongside her husband Jay-Z. Preparing for the joyous event Knowles-Carter pens a beautiful letter to celebrate the legend and all that he was to the nation. The show being held on December 2 will mark the 100th anniversary of the anti-apartheid leader’s birth. In the letter posted on her website titled ‘Dear Madiba,’ Beyonce recalls meeting Mandella for the first time and relives all the good he put into the world.

“I first met you in 2004 for the 46664 AIDS Benefit Concert in Cape Town, and the impact you have had on my life resonated with me today and every day. Your kindness and gratitude for every experience and your ability to forgive are lessons I have learned and will pass on to my three children. My entire family holds you in high regard.”
