A 15-year-old boy who strangled his mother to death appeared in court on Sunday and was denied bail.
Gregory Logan Ramos, allegedly strangled his mother, Gail Cleavenger, 46, with his bare hands in their Florida home.
Ramos reportedly decided to strangle his mother after a dispute on Thursday concerning a D on his report card.
Shortly after 30 minutes of strangling his mother, he called two friends over to stage a burglary at the home.
He then called 911 and reported his mother missing.
The series of events took place shortly after midnight on Friday.
Ramos was arrested after confessing to killing his mother during police questioning.
DailyMail reported, Volusia County Sheriff Mike Chitwood said Ramos was “soulless” because he showed no remorse to the vicious act. He went on to say he is “among the top three sociopaths I have ever encountered.”
On Sunday, Ramos was ordered to a juvenile detention center for the next 21 days.
His two friends were arrested as well, but, released on Sunday to return home. They will be monitored by an ankle bracelet.
Prosecutors are deliberating whether Ramos will be charged as an adult.
According to Ramos, Cleavenger called his father, who was on a business trip, to tell him about the bad grade.
She later went to sleep around 11 p.m. Ramos then waited approximately 90 minutes before entering into her bedroom and strangled her at 12:30 a.m.
She woke up from his efforts and fought back. She left scratch marks on his face. But Ramos allegedly overpowered her, and she died at 1 a.m.
Ramos’ friends, Dylan Ceglarek and Brian Porras then came over to the home to stage a burglary.
Both boys were 17-years-old.
The group kicked in the door, removed expensive items from the home, such as a computer, rifle, and a PlayStation.
They then transported the mother’s body to River City Church and buried it underneath a fire pit.
Chitwood reported that the group chose the area because it was 1.5 miles from the home and had loose soil to easily dig up.
Ramos told police he used a wheelbarrow to move the body in the family van to transport it to the church.
He reportedly drove to Daytona’s Holly Hill area dump first. But, decided on the church instead.
The trio buried the body 8 inches in the ground.
When the deed was done, Ramos returned home and went to school later that morning.
He reportedly left school early that day to create an alibi for his story he was prepping to tell.
When he made it home from school, he called 911 to report a “burglary.” He also told police his mother was missing and a mysterious van was sitting in the driveway with the engine running.
Police responding to the call found suspicion in Ramos story, so, they took him in for questioning.
The 15-year-old eventually confessed to committing the crime after several hours of interviews.
“He was very proud of his work, and he wanted to show it off. To watch how cold and callous he was when talking about it was the most shocking thing to me,” Chitwood said.
He also added that Ramos made an attempt to justify his murder by claiming it to be “preemptive self-defense.” He even told police that he had “to kill her before she killed him.”
Following the confession, police immediately went to the fire pit to retrieve the body.
Chitwood noted that the mother showed no aggression to Ramos on that night prior to the event or ever.
Ramos’ father went home to find his wife and his son missing before being briefed on the situation.
“This is the most disturbing and saddest [thing] I’ve seen in my career. I have a feeling this is a case we’ll be hearing about for years to come. Our hearts break for this family,” Chitwood said.
