Research by an organization called Color of Change Family Story suggests that major media outlets are playing a major role in negatively reinforcing stereotypes about the black American family.
One of the biggest excuses defenders of toxic music, violent movies, and racially biased television news reports give is “It’s just entertainment.” However, a new research report on a study conducted by a professor at the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign suggests otherwise.
The Atlanta Voice published a report on Monday (December 19), which revealed the findings of a study by Color of Change and Family Story, an organization that is an advocate of equality for black people who are oppressed in the United States.
The Color of Change study is titled A Dangerous Distortion of Our Families: Representation of Families, by Race, in News and Opinion Media. The study’s author is Dr. Travis L. Dixon, a professor of communications at the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign.
