On the cusp of the two-year anniversary of the night his mother was gunned down in a racially motivated shooting at a Charleston church, the son of one of the victims was drafted to play baseball for the Chicago Cubs.
Chris Singleton was drafted in the 19th round by the World Series Champion team on Wednesday.

Saturday marked two years since the self-declared white supremacist Dylann Roof shot and killed Singleton’s mother, Rev Sharonda Coleman-Singleton and eight others at a bible study in Charleston’s Emanuel AME Church.
After her death, Singleton said his mother, who was 45, was ‘a God-fearing woman who loved everybody with all her heart.’
