New Poll Shows Trump Approval Rate At An All-Time Low

The latest Morning Consult/Politico poll has President Trump at an all-time low for that particular survey, with only 39 percent approval post-Charlottesville.

Another 56 percent of registered voters said they disapproved of the president, putting him at a net negative of 17 points, the worst rating he’s received since taking office.

It’s Republicans, this time, who are responsible for edging the president down, though 80 percent of people who identified as Trump voters said they still stand by their guy.

Of course other surveys have shown President Trump in the 30s.

The most recent Gallup poll has him at 35 percent approval, the ABC News/Washington Post poll has Trump at 39 percent and an NPR/PBS/Marist survey situates him at 38 percent.

The Real Clear Politics average for Trump right now is 38.5 percent approval.

And the three key states he often boasts about winning – Pennsylvania, Wisconsin and Michigan – have seen his popularity fall below 40 percent too.

What stands out in Politico’s and Morning Consult’s numbers is that while Democrats’ views on Trump remained consistent, only moving by 1 point, it’s Republicans who have slightly soured on the commander-in-chief since earlier this month.

Now, 73 percent of Republicans approve of Trump, down from 76 percent from a poll that was released on August 9, which had been his previous low.

This movement falls just slightly outside the surveys’ 2 point margin of error.

And just a week ago, Trump was riding much higher with GOP voters, garnering 81 percent support in the Politico/Morning Consult survey.

Now 84 percent of Democrats and 58 percent of independents wither strongly or somewhat disapprove of the president’s job performance.

Nearly half the country, 43 percent, used the words ‘strongly’ disapproved.

That’s more than double the percentage of voters who said they strongly approved of the work Trump was doing.

There, Trump gets 20 percent.
