Ellen Degeneres Surprises An Entire Graduating Class By Announcing That Walmart Is Paying For Their College With Scholarships Worth $1.6 Million.
An entire class of seniors at a New York high school received the shock of a lifetime while being featured on Ellen Degeneres’ talk show.
The class of 2017 at Summit Academy in Red Hook, Brooklyn were told on Thursday that in collaboration with Walmart, all of them would receive a full scholarship to any state university in New York for a four-year course.
The comedian and host is known for her philanthropic acts, but as she noted – this is the biggest gift the show has ever given, worth $1.6million.

The founder and principal at the school, Natasha Campbell and Cheryl Swift, were brought on to the show a few weeks ago where Ellen awarded them $25,000 for their diligent educational work.
Campbell said: ‘We are in the Red Hook section, and it’s one of Brooklyn’s most under-served communities.
‘Four per cent of the adults have obtained a college degree, or gone to college.
‘Over 28 per cent of the children under 16 live in poverty.’
